Grim Times Ahead
News stories today are telling how deaths from draught and famine will run into the billions unless governments of the world do something NOW to help reverse the damaging affects of climate change.
The globe will be ravaged by drought, starvation, thirst and an environmental disaster on a huge scale; leaders have been warned that this will be the outcome if they don’t attempt to reduce temperature levels by 2C.
This report which is called “Two Degrees One Chance” also warns of the complete destruction of the Amazon Rainforest by 2100 and the drought level rise of 30% of proportion of land in the world.
This morning another story that i saw that totally goes against the report above, is that China have decided to put their economy before concerns on the environment, they are stating that to help the environment and control climate change, they must develop their economy first; unbelievable really as China are already seeing the consequences of their economic growth by the disastrous pollution of their rivers and also the displacement of their people due to the damming projects that the government has undertaken. Now i am not having a dig at countries like China, as the US and Mr Bush should also take note, that such huge countries with massive populations should look at how they are affecting the environment and the consequences that it WILL have on their economies in the near future; what politicians refuse to realise is that the environment supports human beings and without a healthy environment then economies will collapse and people will suffer.
It is up to politicians to put their foot forward with some real urgency and look to saving the environment; if men of science can put a man on the moon, then surely they can develop technologies that will limit the impact on the environment, but at the end of the day it is all about money, and in this greed ridden capitalist society that we live in - politicians and large soulless corporations will only see to look after themselves and preserve their profits to no end.
Myself personally - am very worried about where ourselves as human beings are going; we have completely disconnected ourselves from our natural environment, the respect for wildlife and nature have gone and our only aim on this planet is destroy the natural world into oblivion just for the sake of making that extra $.
I do hope that a spiritual awakening will show its light and people in power have some heart and spirit, because a very bleak future lies ahead of us if nothing is done, human nature MUST change its ways to preserve our existence as well as the environment.

It is going to be very interesting to see what happens with this poor planet. This reminds me of a book by Orson Scott Card, Pastwatch. He writes that the Earth is no longer able to support humans and they have to go back in time to fix one event… I don’t remember the book really, should read it again. It was very good. But will we ruin the earth so much that it cannot be fixed? I don’t have much faith in humanity…
