Pet Welfare Act

The Pet Welfare Act finally became law in England today and I can only say that it is a great thing for pets all across the country. It will ensure that all our pets are properly taken care of and provide the RSPCA more powers to prosecute negligent pet owners who mistreat their pets.
The new law ensures that ourselves as pet owners - provide a legal responsibility to our pets in providing them appropriate food and water, give them decent shelter and exercise and to make sure that they are treated swiftly if they become sick or injured; so basically speaking we are now legally obliged to look after our pets properly and humanely or we can face a fine of up to £20,000 or 12 Months in prison. The new law will also cover the banning of docking of dogs tails for cosmetic reasons in exception for medical reasons or working purposes; I wonder how dog breeders that breed for show will react to this?
I normally stay out of politics but I applaud the government for doing something good for a change and ensuring that pets and animals that are in our care are cared for properly, and that this new law provides the opportunity for pets to have a decent standard of living.
